Since October 2020, Dr Korbinian Ibel serves as the Director General of DGUDI, which is in-charge of supervising universal banks and diversified lenders. He is a member of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and the co-chair of the Basel Policy and Standards Group.
Dr Ibel joined the ECB in 2014 and was responsible until September 2020 as Director General of Directorate General Microprudential Supervision IV. Previously, he was a consultant at Accenture (1997-2000), followed by being a principal at The Boston Consulting Group (2001-2007). From 2008-2014, he worked at Commerzbank in various positions including Head of Asset Liability Management (Treasury), COO Central & Eastern Europe, COO Private Customers, and Divisional Board Member Group Risk Controlling & Capital Management.
Dr Ibel received his diploma in Economics from the University of Munich and Rotterdam and his doctorate (Dr. rer. pol.) from the University of Frankfurt.
