Throughout his diplomatic career, Ambassador Tacan Ildem held several high-level bilateral and multilateral positions, including NATO Assistant Secretary-General from 2016 to 2020. He was member of the Independent Experts Group of NATO 2030 reflection process that prepared the report titled “NATO 2030: United for a New Era”. He served as the Turkish Ambassador to the Netherlands and Permanent Representative to NATO and the OSCE. His earlier postings were Director-General for International Security Affairs at the MFA, Chief of Cabinet and Principal Foreign Policy Advisor of the President of the Republic. His postings abroad also included Brussels (NATO), New Delhi, Washington DC, and Athens. He is a recipient of the Decoration of Grand Officer of the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity and the Medal of Gratitude of Albania. He is currently the Chairman of EDAM, a Turkish think-tank on foreign and security policy.
