Dr. Spiros Dimolitsas is Senior Vice President for Research & Chief Technology Officer at Georgetown University where he fosters the development of research programs, technology commercialization, and leads innovation alliances with industry, universities, and national laboratories.
Prior to joining Georgetown, he was Senior Executive for Engineering and Associate Director of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory where he oversaw the engineering design of the $3.5 Billion National Ignition facility – the world’s most powerful laser which in 2023 was first to demonstrate the feasibility of laboratory nuclear fusion. Prior to Livermore he was Program Director at the Communications Satellite Corporation (Comsat), and held various roles with United Technologies Corporation, the Mayo Clinic, and HENE S.A. in the United States and Europe. Spiros has consulted for Smart Technology Ventures, and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory;and served on the Board of Directors of Maxoptix Corporation and CMX Technologies.
He serves on the boards of Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. and the Board of Directors of MedStar Health Research Institute. In 1992 he was a recipient of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Outstanding Achievement Medallion, and in 2013 he was named to the US National Academy of Inventors.
