Almut Wieland-Karimi is Senior Policy Advisor and Advisory Board Member of the UN Secretary-General's Peacebuilding Fund, the Mercator Foundation and adelphi's Weathering Risk. From 2009 to 2022, she was Managing Director of the Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF). Prior to that, she was Country Director of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Afghanistan and the USA. She holds a doctorate in Islamic Studies.
