Karen Pittel is Professor of Economics at the University of Munich and Director of the Center for Energy, Climate and Resources of the ifo Institute in Munich, Germany. Her research interests lie in the areas of energy, climate and resource economics with a focus on the transformation of energy systems and the long-term efficiency of climate and energy policies. As a member of the German Advisory Council on Global Change WBGU, Prof. Pittel has contributed recently to reports on global health and water crises. She is also member of the German Science Platform on Climate Protection WPKS and the Executive Board of the National Academy of Science and Technology acatech. Since 2024, she is a member of the policy outreach committee of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists EAERE as well as the CEPR network.
