Ambassador Khalid Ibrahim Emara
Former Assistant foreign minister responsible for Europe, and currently member of the Egyptian council for foreign affairs
Ambassador Emara has served as Egypt's ambassador to the Republic of Bulgaria and non-resident ambassador to the Republic of North Macedonia. His experience includes serving as Assistant Foreign Minister for African Organizations, as well as the personal representative of the President in the steering committee of the African Development Agency NEPAD, and the steering committee of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM). He also served as the national coordinator for Egypt's presidency of the African Union in 2019.
Ambassador Emara previously served as head of Egypt's diplomatic mission to Tehran, and was a member of the Egyptian negotiating team in the negotiations of the Association Agreement between Egypt and the European Union. He served at the Egyptian Permanent Mission in Geneva and was the chief negotiator in the Doha Development Round During the same period, he coordinated the African Group in the World Trade Organization and chaired the African Working Group on the Global Economic and Financial Crisis.
Khalid Emara's career includes serving as Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for International Economic Relations from 2009-2012, as well as working at Egypt's embassies in Rome and Brussels.
Ambassador Emara holds a fellowship degree from Harvard University, Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, as well as a master's degree from the International Institute of Public Administration in Paris. He participated in a number of academic programs at Georgetown University , Maastricht University , and the University of Vienna . He also graduated from the Faculty of Political Science at the American University in Cairo. His career included lecturing at numerous American universities, including Harvard and Boston Universities, the Universities of Florence and Rome, as well as the European Institute in Brussels and the Brookings Institution in Washington. He has contributed to a number of books and articles specialized in foreign policy and international relations in their political and economic dimensions.
He is fluent in Arabic, English, French and Italian.
