Professor Aleks Subic joined Aston University in 2022 as the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive. Prior to joining Aston he was Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice President at RMIT University, Melbourne. He was also Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Enterprise) at Swinburne University of Technology, and Executive Dean of Engineering at RMIT University, largest Engineering faculty in Australia.
Prof Subic is a Fellow of IEAust, Fellow of SAE and Fellow of IEF, and recipient of several awards including Australian Business Innovation Award, Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame Award, City of Birmingham Business Award, GFCC Global Competitiveness Leadership Award. Alongside University leadership, he held other key roles, as Chair of GFCC Global University Research and Leadership Forum, UK Innovation Clusters Advisory Group to Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, West Midlands Economic Development Board, Midlands Innovation Board, Australian Prime Minister's Industry 4.0 Taskforce, Australian Advanced Manufacturing Council Leaders Group, Co-Chair of Australian Digital Transformation Expert Group, Chair of Australian Industry 4.0 TestLabs, Director and Deputy Chair of Australian Association of Aviation and Aerospace Industries, Director of Oceania Cybersecurity Centre Board, Director of Society of Automotive Engineers Australasia Board, Director of National Imaging Facility Board, Director of the Victorian Centre for New Energy Technologies Board.
He served on several national and international Research Committees and Expert Panels, including as Chair of the European Research Council (ERC) for Physical Sciences and Engineering, Defence Materials Technology Centre, Editor of international journals. He is a World’s Top 2% scientist (Stanford / Elsevier) with a significant international profile. Prof Subic is responsible for leading several strategic initiatives, including development of innovation precincts involving universities, industry, business, and government, and driving innovation and investment policy, international education, digital innovation, and civic transformation.
