Born in 1964
attended school near Freiburg. Freelance journalist in the local section of the "Badische Zeitung". Later Cologne journalism school. Academic education: master degree in economics from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Cologne. Worked as a freelance journalist at national newspapers and radio stations. In 1992, longer stay as freelance journalist in South East Asia. In 1993, he joined the business desk of FAZ, where he worked as a page editor and reporter.
