Sharon Donnery is a member of the Supervisory Board of the European Central Bank (ECB), a position she assumed on January 1, 2025. In this role, she focuses on international coordination and supervisory policy, representing the ECB globally.
Previously, Sharon spent much of her career at the Central Bank of Ireland, where she held several senior roles, including Deputy Governor - Central Banking and Deputy Governor - Financial Regulation. She also served as Acting Governor of the Central Bank in 2019 and was deeply involved in both domestic and international central banking, financial regulation, and supervision.
Sharon has chaired numerous international committees, including the ECB High-Level Group on Non-Performing Loans (NPLs) and the European Banking Authority (EBA) Consumer Protection Group. She has also been a co-chair of the Financial Stability Board’s Working Group on Open-ended Funds.
Before her central banking career, Sharon lectured in economics at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. She holds a B.A. in Economics and Politics and an M.A. in Economics from University College Dublin, as well as a Diploma in Company Direction. She was admitted as a Chartered Director by the Institute of Directors in London in 2019 and appointed Adjunct Professor of Economics at Trinity College Dublin in 2020.
