Elena Chouliara was born in Athens and holds a degree in Law from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, along with a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from ALBA Graduate School. Her career in the pharmaceutical industry, spanning over 20 years, began at Novo Nordisk, where she held positions of increasing responsibility at both regional and global levels. In 2011, she joined the Senior Leadership Team of AstraZeneca Greece, where she assumed senior commercial roles focusing on strategic therapeutic areas. In December 2016, she was appointed President and Managing Director of AstraZeneca, a role she holds until today, leading the company’s operations in Greece & Cyprus across the therapeutic areas of Oncology, BioPharmaceuticals (including Cardiovascular, Renal & Metabolism, and Respiratory & Immunology);and Rare Disease. She is a strong advocate of the need to enhance the sustainability and resilience of the health system, by promoting -among others- the Partnership for Health System Sustainability and Resilience (PHSSR) initiative. Furthermore, she is actively involved in health policy through her roles as Vice-President of the BoD of the Hellenic Association of Pharmaceutical Companies (SFEE) and member of the BoD of Pharma Innovation Forum (PIF).
