Banafsheh Geretzki is the Director of Internal Audit and Chief Audit Executive at the European Central Bank (ECB), where she oversees the Internal Audit and Internal Investigation functions. She also chairs the Internal Auditors Committee of the Eurosystem, the European System of Central Banks, and the Single Supervisory Mechanism, driving governance and transparency across Europe's central banking system.
Ms. Geretzki has extensive expertise in financial stability, governance, and supervisory frameworks. She played a key role in Greece's banking crisis, advising the Bank of Greece and the Hellenic Financial Stability Fund (HFSF) on systemic bank restructuring. She also led the establishment of Spain's asset management company, SAREB, and oversaw the resolution of Cyprus’s largest financial institutions during the 2013 crisis.
Previously, she served as EMEA Co-Head of Official Institutions at BlackRock, advising the ECB, the European Commission and other major official institutions on risk management and regulatory frameworks. Earlier in her career, she worked in M&A at Morgan Stanley and in private equity in London and Frankfurt.
Recognised for her contributions to financial stability and governance, Ms. Geretzki was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2014.
