Angelos Athanasopoulos works as National and Regional Press Director at the European People's Party (EPP) in Brussels. He has a long experience in journalism, having served as Editor-in-Chief of the Political Department and Senior Editor of Diplomatic, Defence and European Affairs at the newspaper "TO VIMA" in Athens, as well as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of its International Affairs Department. In 2020 he received the “Award for Excellence in Journalism” from the Foundation for the Promotion of Journalism "Athanasios Vassiliou Botsi" and in 2011 he received the "Eleni Vlachou Award" from the Greek Parliament and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Athens for reporting on EU affairs. He is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) and has been an advisor on the international aspects of migration at the Ministry of Migration Policy. In 2008 he was selected as a European fellow of the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF). He has written academic articles on the Balkans, the EU, geopolitics and migration and worked as a researcher at the European Parliament. In the past, he was part of the team working on disinformation for the European External Action Service (EEAS). Angelos has also served as a consultant to think tanks, embassies and private firms.
