Dr Athanassios Ganas holds a PhD in Geological Remote Sensing and Earth Sciences from the University of Reading, UK (1997). His expertise is Seismotectonics - Neotectonics – Fault mechanics - Remote Sensing / Earth Observation including Stress Transfer, Tectonic Geomorphology, InSAR and GNSS networks. He has published 139 peer-reviewed papers in major international journals and he has 3574 citations on the Scopus Index (h-index = 36). He has received 3 Academy of Athens Awards. He has coordinated and participated in over 60 international and national research projects. His funding record for the period 2000-2024 exceeds the amount of 2.2M Euros. During 2009 – 2025 he serves as Member of the Greek National Committee for Seismic Hazard Assessment. Since March 2010 he is an elected Member of the Executive Board of the Geological Society of Greece . He served as President of the Remote Sensing Committee of the Geological Society of Greece (2018-2020) and of the Tectonics Committee (2016-2018). He now serves as elected President of Geological Society of Greece (2021-2025). He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Bulletin of the Geological Society of Greece (BGSG) for 2016-2025. During 2010-2017 he served as regular member at the Board of Directors of the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization (Athens, Greece). Since 2010 he is involved with the Geodetic Data & Products group of the EPOS ESFRI project and since 2021 is an elected member of the TCS-GNSS Consortium Board. He has been invited repeatedly by foreign governments (Italy, Latvia, Cyprus, Kazakhstan, etc.) and by EU organisations (REA of EC, COST etc.) as external evaluator of research proposals.
