Thanasis Platanias is the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Desserta Hellas SA, the exclusive partner and affiliated company of Berglandmilch eGen in Greece, Cyprus, and the wider Balkan region. Berglandmilch, Austria’s largest dairy producer and one of Europe’s leading agrifood cooperatives, operates 11 state-of-the-art production facilities and processes over 1.3 billion liters of milk annually, sourced from Alpine dairy zones.
Mr. Platanias holds a degree in Economics from the University of Piraeus and a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. He also earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Export Marketing & Management from the Greek Export Promotion Organization.
With more than three decades of executive experience across the food industry, Mr. Platanias has consistently held senior leadership roles, successfully guiding commercial strategy and building high-performing sales and marketing teams-particularly in the dairy sector. Under his leadership, Desserta recently acquired Doriki Dairy from Minerva, assuming control of its Feta cheese production unit in Episkopiko, Ioannina, with a clear vision to elevate the brand into a dynamic, internationally recognized player in the dairy market.
In parallel with his business activities, Mr. Platanias contributes actively to public and civic life. He serves as Vice President of SEF (Peace and Friendship Stadium) and of SEET (Association of Greek Food Enterprices) and is a member of the board of Directors of Gymnastic Club of Kifissia and member of the CEO Club.
