Giorgos Rossides is a Senior Expert at the European Commission’s Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority, where he leads the strategic contributions to the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework and coordinates global engagement efforts. From 2019 to 2024, Giorgos served as Head of Cabinet to the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Ms Stella Kyriakides. In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in shaping the EU’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including overseeing the joint EU vaccine procurement efforts. He was also instrumental in the creation and operationalization of the European Health Union, as well as in advancing key initiatives including the European Health Data Space, the EU pharmaceutical reform, and Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. Prior to this, from 2015 to 2019, Giorgos was a Member of Cabinet for the European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs, and Citizenship, Mr. Dimitris Avramopoulos. There, he led efforts on the Security Union, focusing on counter-terrorism and radicalization, as well as managing transatlantic relations in migration and security with the United States and Canada. He also contributed to EU relations with international organizations, including the UN, NATO, and the G7. Earlier in his career, from 2010 to 2015, Giorgos served as a policy officer in DG Justice, where he was part of the team responsible for developing the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). He also served as Head of Sector for Communication in the Justice and Consumers Directorate-General for two years. From 2005 to 2010, he worked as a policy officer in the Health and Consumers Directorate-General, focusing on the economic aspects of consumer protection law. Giorgos holds a Master's Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford, and a Master's Degree in International Relations and Economics from Columbia University.
