Leonidas C. Doukakis is the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Personnel and a Professor of Accounting at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), Department of Accounting and Finance. Prior to his appointment at AUEB, he was an Assistant Professor at HEC Lausanne, University of Lausanne and Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Bern in Switzerland. He holds a BSc in Accounting and Finance from AUEB, a MSc in International Accounting and Finance from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow (with distinction) and a PhD in Accounting from AUEB. His doctoral studies were financed by a scholarship received by the Hellenic State Scholarships Foundation. After receiving his PhD, he worked as an Adjunct Lecturer at AUEB and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at HEC Lausanne. He has worked for Emporiki Bank and as a financial consultant for the Hellenic Ministry of Transport and Communications. He has served as a Vice President of Finance, Planning and Development and as a permanent member of the Governing Committee at the Hellenic Open University.
His research focuses on accounting quality and earnings manipulation, accounting for mergers and acquisitions, International Financial Reporting Standards, estimation and accounting treatment of own credit risk for financial institutions, and corporate governance.
He has more than 15 years of teaching experience at undergraduate, graduate and executive levels.
