Iliana Magra is a journalist with Greek daily newspaper Kathimerini, where she covers a broad range of political and societal topics. Her reporting includes coverage of Greek and U.S. elections, the evolving state of Greek society and the influence of global events, and the transformative impact of A.I. Through her reporting, she also highlights the experiences of marginalized groups, such as abuse victims and refugees.
She previously broke the story of an abuse scandal involving one of Greece's most prominent NGOs, and was the only Greek journalist to accompany Pope Francis on his first visit to Greece and Cyprus in 2021.
In addition to her work in print journalism, she is the news anchor for the only English-language news bulletin in Greece.
Before resigning in 2020, she worked as a London-based staff journalist for The New York Times, where she continues to freelance. Her work has also appeared in The Sunday Times and The Financial Times.
She studied Politics at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London, where she also learned Turkish as part of her degree. She is an alumnus of Anatolia College in her native Thessaloniki.
