Jesús de la Villa is Professor of Greek Philology at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He is also currently president of the Fédération Internationale des Études Classiques. He is a member of the Board of the Conseil International de la Philosophie et des Sciences Humaines, UNESCO's advisory body for the Humanities. From 2015 to 2023 he was President of the Spanish Society of Classical Studies and was a founding member of the International Committee of Ancient Greek Linguistics.
His research activity has been mainly in the field of Greek and Latin linguistics. His main fields of research have been syntax and semantics, both from a synchronic and diachronic point of view. To a lesser extent, work has also been carried out in the field of Greek literature and Classical tradition or Reception. His main contributions, with international reflection and impact, have been in the field of sentence structure in Greek and Latin, verb categories, in particular tense and aspect, and subordination. This research is reflected in 187 scientific publications, plus others currently in press;in 60 invited lectures or conferences;in 96 interventions in congresses.
